List of Favorites in “Seeking a Friend for the End of the World”

by hwilliams773

Seeking-A-Friend-For-The-End-Of-The-WorldIt’s 11:25 on a Wednesday night and one of my favorite romantic films is playing. The first time I saw “Seeking a Friend for the End of the World”, I knew I was in love with it and stayed up late to write a post that night. This film is one of those on the “If it’s on, at any point in the film, I must finish it” list. I adore it. It’s silly, it’s sad, it’s romantic, it’s everything. So without further delay, my list of favorite things from “Seeking a Friend for the End of the World”: Read the rest of this entry »

33 Inspiring Reasons Why You Should Write More

by hwilliams773

What an inspirational post that I needed to read for my personal writing goals!

Thought Catalog

1. Write because you have something to say.

2. Write because you’ve always wanted to.

3. Write because you only just realized that you might die next week, or tomorrow, or five minutes from now, and you want to leave something behind for posterity.

4. Write because you have a secret fire burning inside of you and the only way that you can fan the flames is by sharing your thoughts with someone else.

5. Write because you’re bored and don’t have anything better to do.

6. Write for yourself.

7. Write for another someone else, or maybe everyone else.

8. Write because you love seeing your stats counter-surge every time you post something. Write because nothing satisfies you quite so much as seeing others share what you’ve written. Write because you like the attention; there’s nothing wrong with liking the attention.

9. Write because it fills the emptiness…

Reason to Love Chicago

by hwilliams773

ChicagoOne of my favorite things about Chicago is the spring/summer transition, albeit how brief the period. Tonight I craved a chicken burrito, so I took a stroll over to Chipotle. Today’s weather was less than perfect; diagonal rain, chilly air. It was indeed perfect reading and napping away the day weather. However, I had an interview and had to go outside and be professional (no puddle jumping or rain dancing for me 😥 ). This evening turned out to be a fine, cool breezy night with a twilight sky, rustling leaves and remnants of the earlier rainfall. With my Hunter boots and iPod in tow, I ambled  down the street and took in the refreshing air. With the right tunes in one’s ears, the trek down the street is much more enjoyable. I just wish I could walk down the street with my eyes closed to enjoy the experience more. Read the rest of this entry »

Day that was a Good Day!

Today was a good day, and I’m not referring to the Ice Cube, “Today I didn’t even have to use my AK. I got to say it was a good day” kind of good day. It was just a good day. Nice, restful sleep, Read some more of a good book, did well on a phone interview for a potentially amazing job opportunity, got to meet up with some of my old coworkers on happenstance, enjoy some craft beer week at Northdown Cafe & Taproom and head over to the Cubs/Yankees game with my friend, Kathy, my roommate and her brother. It was just an all-around splendid day. I feel inspired and motivated. I had nothing but a goofy smile on my face as I exited the train station with my book in hand and Lykke Li in my ears. It was lightening and thundering, but I braved the elements for some ‘za and ginger ale and I couldn’t wait to get home and tap away on my keys! Read the rest of this entry »

Way to find my passion in life

by hwilliams773

HeatherWilliamsLately I’ve felt as if I were floundering about in life. “What do I want to do?”, “Am I really happy?”, “What do I really want to be doing with my life?”. I have been employed for the last 18 years. I can’t even remember the last time I had this much idle time on my hands. This past Friday was my last day at my job, as I was let go. Now, I cannot say that I’m angry about being let go, but I’ve always left on my own terms with a plan for the next steps in my life. So it came to a bit of a shock when my boss, who I deeply respect called me in for a meeting towards the end of the day and blurted out, “Today is your last day.” as if ripping a bandage off. I was stunned, but kind of saw it coming. I was coasting. I was working and happy with the environment, but wasn’t sure if I was truly happy doing what I was doing. Read the rest of this entry »

The 6 Types Of Girls You Should Be

by hwilliams773

I enjoyed this piece. It’s a great idea to be each of these types of girl. Perhaps even embodied into one person. I mean, why not!

Thought Catalog

1. Be the girl with the laugh.

Have the ugly laugh or the loud laugh or the laugh that bubbles over your lips and travels towards those around you. Have the laugh that fills a room or the laugh that separates a crowd or the laugh that can only be heard in a quiet booth in the back of a cute café. Be the girl with the laugh that the boy will die to hear. Be the girl with the laugh that the boys will die to be the source of. Be the girl who’s happy.

2. Be the girl with the eyes.

Have the blue eyes or the big eyes or the squinty eyes. Have the kind of eyes that bunch up in the corners the way they claim is unattractive, all because you’re smiling so hard. Be the girl with the eyes that people will…

Random chat about Katy Perry’s hair with a friend

by hwilliams773

https://i2.wp.com/cdni.condenast.co.uk/262x393/k_n/katy-perry_glamour_9apr14_getty_b_262x393.jpgWe all have multiple types of friends. Some are the type you can have mature conversations about your plans as an adult. “I just opened a Roth IRA! Best decision ever!”.

“Well, that’s just excellent, Jeremy! Probably some of the best advice I could give a peer.”.

Others are the type you can have discussions about books and perhaps start a book club with. “The protagonist just really upset me in chapter 15! What did you think about that, Jeannine?”, “I have to agree, but I was more shocked at the plot twist in chapter 27, Ruth!”. Read the rest of this entry »

Monthly Visitor

"New Girl" said it best in the "Menzies" episode.

“New Girl” said it best in the “Menzies” episode.

We all have a name for our periods. I most recently decided to name mine, “The Troll”. Why? Because, as the lovely cost of being a woman, we have to pay a toll each month and suffer the ordeal of discomfort, the bloats, stuffing our faces, feeling quite less than desirable. I personally tend to bloat up and feel like a blubber-filled pregnant sea lion, flubbing about the beach in search of fish and other divine seaside treats with which to gorge on, following by a good basking in the sun. (Perhaps she is my spirit animal?) Read the rest of this entry »

(n) International Day of Happiness

IDHHappy International Day of Happiness! What a perfect day for it; the first day of spring! The sun is shining today! It’s a lovely day to be alive, to be smiling, dare I say, to be happy! Let’s list some things to do that could bring you or someone else happiness today! Keep in mind I’m counting bringing a smile to someone’s face, ’cause, well, ’cause I said so! Plus, “I love smiling! Spring ’14

by hwilliams773

Glorious Weather

Me outside a couple springs ago celebrating spring.

Tomorrow marks the first day of spring. This will be my 32nd spring on this planet and I still very much look forward to the spring transition every year! Rain, blustery days, random surprise snow, first bits of green popping through the dirt, and longer days. Just to list off a few of my favorite spring things!

Here in Chicago, it’s a rainy day and one of the best things I could have someone say to me was from the sweet Starbucks guy near my office. “Jump and play in a few puddles for me please!” Little did he know, that I LOVE jumping in puddles and today I am equipped with the proper footwear to achieve such a joyful request. Yes, this is a random little post, but do yourself a favor today; whether it’s raining where you are today, take a moment out of your day to go outside and have a jump or dance about! Trust me, it will do you good in every way imaginable. You’ll feel lighter, happier, freer, and it’s great to do something silly and fun without worrying what anyone around you will think!

Need a soundtrack for your silly moment? Here you go!
